該儀器最早設計用於與鄧錄普橡膠公司輪胎中,用於測試輪胎簾線(紗)在準確的溫度控制下的收縮情況。

應用：
乾熱收縮儀是用來測試纖維及紗線在設定溫度下熱收縮值的專業儀器，儀器有上下兩個加熱盤，加熱盤之間為設定溫度的乾熱空氣，纖維通過夾持器被推入加熱盤之間的乾熱空氣區域後發生收縮變化，通過傳感器測量該纖維在熱源下長度及收縮力的變化
 
原理：
將紡織簾線在一定張力 (標準預張力或非標準預張力)下放置在一個加熱至相對均勻溫度的環境中，在標準預張力或其他預張力下，將紡織試樣放置在乾熱收縮儀加熱板之間，當簾線受熱時，會收縮或伸張，致使輪移動或者產生一個張力，即乾熱收縮力，該輪直接連到一個指針或傳感器上，它們會表示簾線試樣收縮或伸張的長度，即乾熱收縮率，當輪換成力值傳感器時，即輸出乾熱收縮力值
