英國伯明罕大學工程師，針對如何擺放洗碗機內的碗碟，才能達到最佳清潔效果，作了研究，並提供數據，婆婆媽媽們對此問題的爭辯，終於有結論了。
日前，伯明罕大學化學工程專家表示，洗碗機裡的碗盤最好以圍成一圈的方式擺放，餐具則置於中間。
用來裝高蛋白食物的盤子，應放最外圍及較低的位置，讓化學清潔劑有足夠時間發揮效用。
盛碳水化合物食物的碗盤，則置放中間或較高，近噴水器的位置，讓強力水柱沖走食物殘渣。
洗碗機中間位置的水流速度最快，而外圍水流速度則較慢。
摻有洗潔劑的水流速度較低，但能分解蛋白質，而速度較快的水流則能打碎碳水化合物食物殘渣，快速清潔。
若洗碗機超載，碗盤之間空間不足，令水難以接觸碗盤表面，會導致清洗效果不佳。
