Building on the success of thousands of installations worldwide we are pleased to introduce the Flo-Tote 3 - the new generation of the worlds most popular sewer flowmeter.
Marsh-McBirneys Flo-Tote 3 portable flowmeters are based on the original and unsurpassed velocity/area measurement sensors and techniques. Continuous product innovation has made it possible to combine proven sensor design with state-of-the art technology.
In addition to the accuracy and ease-of-use our customers have come to expect the Flo-Tote 3 offers some exciting new features:‧Disconnectable sensor for quick and easy replacement
‧Interchangeable with Flo-Dar sensors
‧24 hour service turnaround to significantly reduce downtime
‧Room to store more data with a storage capacity increased to 64K
‧Extended battery life
‧Pocket PC compatible for data collection convenience
Accuracy is Important!
Unlike Acoustic Doppler meters, the Marsh-McBirney electromagnetic area/velocity flowmeters measure both velocity and level in the same cross-section (or slice of pipe), a requirement necessary for accurate flow rate measurement using the continuity equation:
Q = V x A.
Using measurements derived empirically over ten years, MMI has bridged the gap between the performance of its velocity sensor in a tow tank and its ability to calculate the average velocity that exists in an open channel sewer pipe.
The flow accuracy of the Flo-Tote 3 is based upon the accurate measures of both velocity and level in hydraulic flow labs, as well as under actual sewer conditions in the field.
Flo-Tote 3 Specifications:
SENSOR
Velocity Measurement
‧ Method: Electromagnetic (Faraday’s Law)
‧Range: -5 to +20 feet per second (-1.5 to +6.1m/s)
‧Accuracy: ±2% of reading, ± 0.05 zero stability at 0 to
+10 ft/sec (0 to + 3m/sec)
‧Zero Stability: ±0.05 feet per second (±0.015m/sec)
‧Resolution: 0.01 feet per second (± 0.003m/sec)
Level Measurement
‧ Method: Submerged pressure transducer
‧Range: Standard 0.4 to 138 inches. (10mm to 3.5m)
Optional 0.4 to 276 inches
‧Accuracy: ±1% of reading
‧Zero Stability: ± 0.03 ft. (± 0.009m) zero stability for
0 to 10 ft (0 to 3m). Includes non-linearity, hysteresis
and velocity effects.
‧Resolution: 0.1 inch (2.5mm)
‧Over Range Protection: 2 X range
Flow Measurement
‧Method: Conversion of water level and pipe size to fluid
area. Conversion of local velocity reading to mean
velocity. Multiplication of fluid area by mean velocity
to equal flow rate.
‧Conversion Accuracy: ±5.0% of reading. Assumes
pipe is 10 to 90% full and with a level greater than
2 inches
Temperature Measurement:
‧Method: 1 wire digital thermometer
‧Range: 14º to 185ºF (-10º to 85º C)
‧ Accuracy: ± 6 F (3.5C) degrees
Material
‧Standard: Polyurethane
‧Dimensions: 5 3/16"(131.8mm) L, 1 ¾ " (44.5mm)W,
1 1/8" H (29mm)
‧Weight: 2.5 lbs. (with 30 feet of sensor cable)
‧Operating Temperature Range: 32° to 113° F
(0° to 45° C)
‧Storage Temperature: -4º to 125º F (-20° to 52°C)
Sensor Cable
‧Material: Polyurethane jacketed
‧ Standard Length: 30 ft. (9m)
‧ Optional Length: 60 ft. (18m),100 ft. (30m) or length
as needed (maximum 1000 ft/300m)
Flow measurement is based on the equation:
Q = V x A where
Q = Flow
V = Average Velocity
A = Area.
The measurement of both velocity and level in the same cross-section of pipe is critical for accurate flow rate determination, including surcharge conditions.
